Midweek WOW

Last night I had to make an unscheduled visit to Walterboro. My biker brother, Brian's, father passed away. On the way home, I popped in my WOW Gold. I hadn't played it in a long time for some reason.

It did my heart so good to hear some of the classics by Twila Paris, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Sandi Patty, Carman, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Keith Green, and First Call. When I was a teenager and a new Christian, this was the "cutting edge" music of my generation. It was the music they didn't want to play in church. Now most of the artists have numerous of their songs in hymnals across the country. We were radical in our faith back then. We believed in our music, the people who recorded it, and the Lord, of Whom they sang. I recall seeing Amy Grant with special guest Michael W. Smith at the Columbia Township Auditorium back in 1983 or 84, before either of them became as internationally known as they are today. Those were the days! I was real before God, my friends, and my church, and I was happy.

I cannot go back in time, but I realized that I want to be like that again: just real. I like the music I like, I dress the way I like, and I just want to be openly in love with Jesus. He is risen, He is Lord, and He is MINE!

Not bad for a midweek WOW!

Resurrection Sunday

What a great weekend we had in Walterboro with our Evergreen Christian Church family! The kids are exhausted, and Mom and Dad are shredded, but it was all worth it. There were almost 100 in worship this morning! That is the highest attendance since I started there! My message was from Romans 6:1-14 on "Living the Resurrected Life." The final part of the series ties it all together with "Living the Exchanged Life." I am looking forward to continuing this series.

Enjoy some snapshots of our weekend:

Maundy Birthday

Today we celebrated two special occasions with our church family in Walterboro:

1) Maundy Thursday--my first ever. I had heard the term many times over the years, but never really explored it. You know, like the meaning of Auld Lang Syne. You know it's not going anywhere, so you make a note to one day figure the meaning out. Until tonight, that was Maundy Thursday for me.

2) Tracy's birthday. I believe that this year is going to be one of new beginnings for Tracy and our family. That we spent her birthday with some fine folks at the church is evidence of this.

3) Another reason to celebrate today is that TNA Wrestling has moved to Thursday nights starting tonight! I also discovered that the G4 network is running Star Trek original series episodes every night at 11:00 EST.

Ahhhhh...life is good!

A Special Day

Today is special to me. I am 23 years old today. I am talking "spiritual years" of course. On this day in 1983, I invited Jesus Christ into my heart. Every year on this day, I like to do two things.

1) Go and visit the spot where it happened, which is in front of Trinity Baptist Church.
2) Thank the two people most responsible for it happening, my dear friend Rickwell, and my SS teacher, Frank Ward. It is worth mentioning that the Kirks had a great deal to do with my spiritual enrichment and my getting turned on to Christ before I met these two brothers.

I have thanked them publicly and privately over the years, though not every year, lest it become redundant. But this year I feel the need, so to Frank and Rick, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring so much for my eternal destiny, and for showing me Jesus from day one. I will never forget it.

No need to send presents for this birthday.
